The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has spearheaded a collaborative initiative to bolster distance education expertise across West Africa.
A KNUST delegation recently concluded a visit to the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin, hosted by the Centre d’Excellence Africain pour l’Eau et d’Assainissement–Institut National de l’Eau (C2EA-INE).

The KNUST team, comprising IDL Director Prof. Anthony Andrews, E-Learning Centre Director Prof. Eric Appau Asante, and Senior Assistant Registrar Mr. Christopher Addo, spent six days in Benin, from April 6th to 11th, 2025.
The primary objective of the visit was to strengthen academic ties and facilitate the exchange of best practices in digital learning methodologies.
During the collaboration, representatives from both institutions jointly evaluated their respective distance learning systems and worked together to co-develop the C2EA Manual for Digital Education.
A key focus was on enhancing the skills of lecturers through training in effective online course formatting and publication. Furthermore, the capacity of web managers to effectively manage Learning Management Systems (LMS) was strengthened.
The partnership also facilitated a valuable exchange of best practices in ensuring high-quality online course delivery and robust quality assurance mechanisms.
C2EA-INE, a prominent public institution in Benin, specializes in research and education related to water, sanitation, and climate change. It serves as a vital technical and scientific resource for Benin in addressing critical environmental and infrastructural challenges.
